i removed the belt sander from the power stand and mounted it on my ss. Have a problem with the drive hub. The only one that fits is the same as the one that fits the saw. power coupler will not fit between them ? any help or suggestions greatly appreciated

I'm away from home, therefore my machines/reference materials are not handy. 'Winging it', I believe the coupler ends are a 4 spline on the accessory side, and a 5 spline on the drive/powerhead side (the coupler is labled as to which end goes where). Why the difference ? I was told this is a 'safety feature', if the accessory were to become mechanically bound-up/or jammed, for any reason. The four splines would shear off; therefore the Powerhead wouldn't be damaged through overheating of the motor. This shearing action {in theory} would probably occur faster than it might be humanly possible to reach for the Power Switch and shut off the machine. (accurate information ???)

I'll bet both hubs on the Powerhead and your accessory, have exactly the same # of splines. Swapping out one or the other, as necessary, will resolve the issue.

It's always a good idea to acquire at least one spare of each type, and two spare couplers. Should anything happen, you'll have no 'downtime', waiting for replacements to arrive. If you happen to live next to a ShopSmith source, the need will manifest itself during the hours they are closed ! ! !

If my 'WAG' is incorrect, it's probably because my crystal ball isn't working correctly either.
