I am looking for two casters for my Mark VII. They were lost in a cross-country move. I know where I can find some I would greatly appreciate a reply.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff Blasius

Hi, Your post of January 2004 got my attention. To my knowledge, Shopsmith never offered casters for the Mark VII. I made my own.

However, I would be happy to "stand corrected". If you have such animals, please let me know.

Yup, they offered retractable casters, just like on ER's and V's. I have them and will have pics up in a few days (currently finishing up re-assembly). Unfortunately, they are a weird size and I can't find matches. My wheels have several flat spots worn into them. I'm going to have to try to just replace the wheels by drilling off the pin/axle and then replacing it with something else. No off-the-shelf casters fit. Either they don't fully retract due to being too tall or they don't rotate freely inside the feet boxes so the whole things binds when you try to move it. I've tried replacements from Ace, Menards, Shopsmith (MarkV ones, stem was too long), and Grainger (they were closest, but again can't rotate freely in the boxes).

Hi DPF, I am flabergasted!! You mean for 40 years I labored under the assumption that I was relegated to homemade Mark VII casters when I could be using (all this time) store boughten ones? Well Glory Bee!

All seriousness aside, I do have a small glimmer of recollection (we're talking 40 years now) that an effort to acquire those casters from SS was met with an admonition that they were not available. Maybe I erroneously and hurriedly assumed that they did not exist, when all the time they may have been "out of stock". Anyway, I am so used to my "homemade" ones that I would probably not opt for the "official" ones even if they were now available. Ah well, such is life and the world continues to turn.

Yes, Sam, mine has them too. They are still round but squeek something terrible. As much as I move mine around in the shop, I would hate it without casters.
