Key Switch? - to those who've disassembled

I've got another question. I noticed when I got my VII (still haven't even plugged it in), that the key switch was loose. I could actually pull the whole thing out through the hole by the key. I took the belt cover off the headstock to get a look inside and low and behold, there was the nut for the key switch lying in the motor pan. I went and looked at the exploded view in my parts manual and there were apparently two nuts and a wave washer along with a "selector". Now, this got me to thinking. The gentleman who gave it to me claimed the switch was shot and stuck in forward. I figured since it was normal for the switches to go out in these, that was the case. After seeing how the key switch was just hanging in the hole and the selecetor is not attached, could that maybe be the problem? I need to open it up again and see if the other nut/washer/selector are in the motorpan as well. The moral of the story is:

If the key switch is out or the selector is jammed in the switch somewhere, could that cause the "stuck in forward" problem? Of course it's probably a moot point. If he used it this way for ten years, the contacts have probably corroded together by now anyway.

Is that what used to go in the hole mine has below the off button? I wondered what went there.

Yup, it was a key lock safety switch. If you look at my pics in your other thread, you see the "hunk-o-wood" keychain :).

I've got a parts manual with several exploded views and parts list if you need a copy. I can scan it in and send it to you.

Thanks, but I already bought one. Some of the pages are not perfect copy though. Mainly some of the pictures in the instruction manual. :(
