The last owner tells me there is a special adhesive for holding the sandpaper to the metal disk but has forgotten what it is. Can anyone help?

I don't think it's anything special. Even just a rubber cement perhaps? Nowadays, you buy the disks with PSA already on them and use heat to easily get them off (I've got a heat gun) or just peel and clean with solvent.

I've not bought any 10" ones yet for the MarkVII, but for my ER I've bought a couple 12" ones I paid a rediculous amount of money for at Menards, they had 10" also. Or you can go to the the sandpaper lady and order 10". If you got a stock of non-PSA backed paper from whomever you got the MVII from, then you can just get some spray adhesive and I wager it will be fine. It will just need to be cleaned after each use with solvent.

I suppose that you can try rubber cement. I'm not sure that it has enough moxie to hold the paper there for long enough to do you any good. There are specific adhesives for gluing disks that are not self-adhesive--or self-adhesive disks that have lost their stick or have warped and need "reinforcement discipline" to stay hooked up.

Sears used to sell it the stuff. Lousy bottle, no applicator. I used an acid brush. I think that I've seen it at hardware stores, too, but most of the stuff being sold today is self-adhesive. My belt/disk sander combo (Craftsman brand) was purchased when self-adhesive was still pretty much a dream. Any my supply of 9" disks purchased around the same time, I'll wager.

It's me again...

3M makes a spray on adhesive, #08054, "Spray Disc Adhesive", and in a tube #08051, "Feathering Disc Adhesive". One source shows the price as $8.25 for tube, $11.85 for spray-on.

I'm betting that Home Depot or Lowes has it, just not on-line. One other on-the-Internet suggestion was to try an autobody supply store.

Sanding disc adhesive cleans up better/easier than contact cement, but has similar strength. Rubber cement cleans up GREAT, but is designed to either weld rubber patches to rubber (literally weld) or to adhere paper to other paper in a removable, easily clean-up-able way. NOT what we need for sanding disks/discs. IMHO, YMMV.

I found some stuff at Lowes. It works fine. I turned a bowl using it to bond it to the sanding disk. The previous owner suggested that . Said he had done that. Came out pretty fair for a first attempt.
